I began writing in my early twenties and sold my first short story to Teen Magazine at age 26. I continued to write short fiction and poetry, which appeared in magazines including the New Era and The Children’s Friend. In my thirties I served as president of The League of Utah Writers, and Blue Quill, their Ogden chapter.
In February of 2025 my first full length novel came out, The Secret of Surviving In The Sea. This was an exciting time for me and something I’ve always hoped for.
I’ve won 34 awards for my writing.
What do you do besides write?
I write and I travel. My favorite thing to do is swim in the ocean.
What’s your favorite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?
In 2023 I went on a 30-day road trip from the beginning of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca all the way to the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans. I loved everything about that trip and would love to go back to New Orleans. It was exciting and fascinating with entirely different looks, sounds, smells and vibe than I had ever before experienced in the USA.
What inspired you to write the book The Secret of Surviving In The Sea?
I can’t say what actually inspired me. It just started, then grew in my mind like a persistent kudzu plant that wouldn’t quit till I got it down.
